Bible Meets Nanotechnology

Israeli scientists have inscribed the entire Jewish Bible onto a chip less than the size of a grain of sugar.

With more than 300,000 words, the Hebrew Bible was successfully put on a silicon chip smaller than a pinhead.
"It took us about an hour to etch the 300,000 words of the Bible onto a tiny silicon surface," Ohad Zohar, the university's scientific adviser for educational programs, told the Associated Press...[ READ MORE ]

An Australian security expert has rigged a PlayStation 3 to steal passwords

Nick Breese, a senior security consultant at Auckland, Australia-based Security-assessment.com, has come up with a way to drastically increase the processing capability of cracking passwords.

By design, PS3 is very suitable for cryptography, says Breese. Intel processors are designed to do all kinds of complex calculations, whereas the PS3 is good at doing simple things very quickly. "And believe it or not, cryptography really is simple," he says. "Lots of simple operations being done one at the time."

The strength of cryptography implementations is usually based on its cracking time -- how long it would take for someone to sit down and crack it, says Breese. His discovery has demonstrated that the capability of cracking encryption algorithms has multiplied by 100.

Breese's discovery "will unfortunately make cryptography cracking faster", he says. However, he hopes that his research will help drive the need for stronger cryptography to be used, and push for better implementations of cryptography. [ READ MORE ]

Fastest Internet Connection ( 100 Gbps )
Internet2 network infrastructure has announced at its fall meeting that it had completed a major upgrade to its national infrastructure, which now operates at 100Gbps and allows researchers to provision their own dedicated links for limited periods of time.

In a demonstration of this new DCN feature at the organization's fall meeting, physicist Carl Lundstedt of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) set up a 10 Gbps dedicated circuit between the UNL campus and Fermilab, a research facility in Batavia, Ill. Using this dedicated connection, Lundstedt was able to transfer one-third of a terabyte of information in just five minutes...[ READ MORE ]

First Commercial Flying Saucer

M200G is the size of a small automobile and is powered by eight of the Company’s Rotapower® rotary engines. This vehicle is intended for operation continuously in “ground effect” up to approximately 10 feet altitude. Dr. Moller calls the M200G, “the ultimate off-road vehicle” able to travel over any surface. “It’s not a hovercraft, although its operation is just as easy. You can speed over rocks, swampland, fences, or log infested waterways with ease because you’re not limited by the surface. The electronics keep the craft stabilized at no more than 10 feet altitude, which places the craft within ground effect where extra lift is obtained from operating near the ground. This lets you glide over terrain at 50 mph that would stop most other vehicles” ... [READ  MORE]
